02 - 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened

→ Flavor & Sweetness

03 - 1/2 tsp orange extract
04 - 2 1/2–3 cups powdered sugar, sifted
05 - Orange food coloring, as desired

→ Finish

06 - Extra powdered sugar for dusting

# Directions:

01 - Beat together the softened cream cheese and butter in a medium bowl until smooth and creamy texture is achieved.
02 - Incorporate the orange extract and a few drops of orange food coloring; mix until fully combined and uniform in color.
03 - Gradually beat in the powdered sugar, 1/2 cup at a time, until a soft, pliable dough forms that no longer sticks to the bowl.
04 - Taste the dough and add more orange extract or food coloring as needed to achieve desired intensity.
05 - Dust work surface with powdered sugar. Roll dough into 3/4-inch balls and flatten each gently with a fork or thumb to create classic mint shape.
06 - Arrange mints on parchment-lined tray. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour until firm to the touch.
07 - Transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 1 week, or freeze for up to 2 months for longer storage.

# Helpful Tips:

01 -
  • These come together in under 30 minutes but taste like something from an old fashioned candy shop
  • The bright orange flavor cuts through rich desserts and makes them feel special without any fancy equipment
02 -
  • Humidity is the enemy here—on rainy days, you might need an extra 1/4 cup of powdered sugar to get the right dough consistency
  • If your dough starts feeling warm and sticky while shaping it, pop the whole bowl in the fridge for 10 minutes and it will become much easier to work with
03 -
  • Wear food safe gloves if you are making these for a large event—the dough picks up fingerprints easily and gloves keep everything looking pristine
  • For weddings or formal events, press a clean rubber stamp with a delicate design onto each mint instead of using a fork for a bakery quality finish
